Title: The Holy Trinity | The Trinity Icon + Set of Postcards With Icons | Silver-Plated Orthodox Icon Key features: handmade, coloured silver plating, consecrated Materials: wood, 999 silver plating The size of the icon: 5.12 x 7.1 inches 13 x 18 cm Description: 1 TRINITY ICON + SET OF POSTCARDS WITH RUSSIAN ICONS + GIFT BOX The Holy Trinity is among the most known works of art in Russia, which became famous because of its original and unique composition. There were many attempts to show the Trinity – with the help of doves, for example, but only the genius of Andrei Rublev could express God’s nature in such a simple way. The icon shows the Almighty without God being represented. Yet, in these three figures, we still can see God, maybe not with our eyes but with our hearts and through our faith – because He has a triune nature. The sacred image depicts three angelic visitors that appeared to Abraham as the embodiment of Our Lord. Three distinct hypostases – all united in one true God. On the icon, they are shown as co-equals, with very little distinction between them. Although every viewer may make his assumptions about what figure stands for which hypostasis, there is no mention of it anywhere on the icon itself. The image has quickly become a popular motif among icon painters. Even today, it serves as an inspiration for many independent artisans and painters who aim to spread the vision of the Holy Trinity by Andrei Rublev across the globe and share this unique depiction with many other believers. You can offer this magnificent Trinity icon covered with a coloured silver plate to your family member or order the icon for your own icon corner. When ordering this icon, you receive a set of postcards as a gift. The set consists of the 12 most prominent and outstanding examples of Orthodox icon painting in Russia (see PRODUCT DETAILS). Some of these sacred images can only be seen in museums. Every period and main schools are represented here: from the early stage (the Medieval period) to the 16th century. [MATERIALS AND MANUFACTURE] This item is a mini copy of the original Holy Trinity icon. Every aspect of this product shows its great spiritual and material value – from natural material (wood, silver) to handwork by Christian masters. The postcards are printed on glossy white paper. Russian icon - Set of 12 postcards consists of the copies of the following icons: The Archangel Gabriel (Angle with the Golden Hair) The Miracle of St George The Battle of the Novgorodians and the Suzdalians. The Miraculous Sign of the Icon of the Virgin The Trinity by Andrey Rublev St John the Theologian in Silence Sts Boris and Gleb The Entry into Jerusalem The Mother of God of Vladimir Icon Not-Made-by-Hand of Our Lord The Baptism of Christ St Nicholas with Selected Saints (on the borders) Kazan Icon of the Mother of God The titles of these icons are written in five languages (Russian, English, German, French, and Japanese), which only proves the international value of the Russian art of icon painting. This set of postcards includes some impressive examples of Russian Orthodox icon painting. Some of these icons can only be found in museums and reflect the history of the development of icon painting in the country throughout the centuries. Every period is represented here: the early stage (the 12th century) when the artists were taking lessons from the famed Byzantine masters, the era of flourishing (the 14th and 15th centuries) when independent schools of icon painting in Russia were established, and the late stage (the 16th century) dedicated to discovering theological meanings and finding the unique artistic side. The multifaceted diversity of Russian icon painting schools is shown in the works. Thus, the Novgorod icons are notable for their brightness, and positive vibes in the colour palette, and at the same time, they convey infinite spiritual power. It’s visible in such works as The Baptism of Christ and Icon Not-Made-by-Hand of Our Lord. As if opposing this brightness, there are the Pskov icons, which stand out because of their dark colours. Another approach to icon painting is shown by the Moscow School – the visible inner harmony and serenity as in Andrey Rublev’s famous work The Trinity. And although it’s a widely-known motif for many believers, the painting and the talent of the artist turned it into one of the most prominent works of Russian art. Another change in Russian icon painting was influenced by the appearance of The Mother of God of Vladimir. This image was not made in Russia – its birthplace is Constantinople. Brought to Kyiv at the beginning of the 12th century, it stayed in the Holy Dormition Cathedral until 1480. It was later transferred to Moscow but regardless of its resting place, has always had immersive power over believers. And even more: the striking beauty of the Mother of God and her genuine mournful features ranks this image as one of the most perfect portraits in the world of art.
