About the place

The Solovetsky Transfiguration Stauropegial Monastery stands on the Solovetsky islands in the White Sea, in the Arkhangelsk region of Russia. It was founded in the 15th century by Sts Zosima and Savvaty.

The main shrine of the monastery is the relics of Sts Zosima, Savvaty and Herman of Solovki, the founders of the community. On the islands there are sketes, chapels and worship crosses.

Our group made a pilgrimage to Solovki in September 2009.
