Description

The set contains 12 icon cards: the Archangel Gabriel (the Angel with the Golden Hair), the Miracle of St George, the Battle of the Novgorodians and the Suzdalians (the Miracle of the Icon of the Sign), the Holy Trinity by Andrei Rublev, St John the Theologian in Silence, Sts Boris and Gleb, the Entry into Jerusalem, the Vladimir Mother of God, the Icon of Christ Not Made by Hands, the Baptism of Christ, St Nicholas with selected saints on the borders, and the Kazan Mother of God.

The icons date from the 12th to the 16th century, and some of the originals are kept in museums. They show how icon painting developed, from early images after Byzantine models to the flowering of the 14th and 15th centuries, when the Novgorod, Pskov and Moscow schools took shape.

The titles are printed in five languages: Russian, English, German, French and Japanese, a nice gift for anyone interested in icons.
