About the place
The Monastery of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos is a working convent of the Georgian Orthodox Church in the town of Borjomi, in the Borjomi gorge among the mountains of the Caucasus. The main church of the monastery is dedicated to the Nativity of the Theotokos and dates from 1865.
Not far from Borjomi lies Berebis Saqdrebi, a medieval church and burial complex with an underground crypt. The remains found there during archaeological research, among them 619 skulls, are now kept in the monastery ossuary. According to the monastery tradition, these are monks who were martyred during ancient raids on the monasteries of the gorge. Pilgrims come to the ossuary to pray for health and for help in illness and sorrow, and are anointed there with blessed oil.
The patronal feast is the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, 21 September (new style). Our groups visit the monastery on the trips to Georgia, and we take prayer notes for the living and the departed here.

Borjomi is about 160 km west of Tbilisi, 2.5–3 hours by car or train. The monastery is in the town itself.
